Welcome to my first ever Blog!

Gordy & Lionel

Lionel Strang & Gordy Robinson Jan 2020

I had been an arm chair modeller for a number of years and in 2015 i decided to get off the arm chair and do a bit. I joined the NMRA and started having a go at model railroading and my O scale layout the Norwalk Valley RR was born.

A career change and a move to Scotland, UK in 2016 has allowed even more modelling time but has restrict the available space. I have been getting involved in NMRA activities in Scotland and have decided to start working towards my AP certificates. This is very much going to be trial and error don’t expect masterpieces here, this is very much a learn on the Job, especially if i have to paint anything as more paint usually ends up on me than the model.

Well i hope you enjoy my blog and fingers crossed you see some improvement in my modelling and writing skills.

NMRA Roles

So I started turning up, with a personality like mine this means you don’t moan you offer to help make them better so I now have a growing list of NMRA roles, I help with the Social Media for the NMRA British Region and contribute to the NMRA facebook page.

As of July 2017 I took over the duties of the Scotland Division Rep from Niall Smith, I now try to co-ordinate activies for members in Scotland, promote the NMRA and act as a point of contact for our members visiting Scotland from across the globe. In the British Region we don’t have a Division President we have the position of Divisional Rep to the Regional BOD in lieu.

in 2019 I ran to become the At Large Worldwide Director for the NMRA but came second just under 200 votes behind Jack Hamilton MMR.

In 2020 I launched NMRAx along with Martyn Jenkins and others. NMRAx is a virtual model railroad convention started at the hight of the first wave of Covid 19 in Europe and North America. See my blog post nmrax digital opportunities to grow the hobby for further information.

In November 2020 I was appointed to the role of At Large Worldwide Director for the National Model Railroad Association INC.

I am grateful for all and any feedback on my modelling, my website or my work for the NMRA.

Enjoy!

  1. Good Afternoon Gordy. I am listening to your podcast with Kathy Millatt. That crossing signal is a wig-wag, not wigwam – an Indian tent. Nice work on the podcast. Regards Paul Hobbs in Auckland, New Zealand

  2. Gordy, was a treat to meet you at the convention on PEI. Nice presentation. I like your site and was wondering what theme you use. I am developing a site for myself and am not 100% pleased with my theme.
