About MØOMG

Welcome! I’m Gordy. I first became licensed as M6ESL in 2010, quickly upgrading through 2EØESL, and finally obtaining my Full license, MØOMG, in July 2011. My initial focus was on portable operations, participating in JOTA, SOTA, and field activations using 2m FM and experimenting with older HF data modes like PSK31.

After moving to Fife, I operated briefly as MMØOMG until antenna restrictions forced a long period of inactivity. Since relocating to beautiful Orkney (IOTA EU-009) in 2019, I have been steadily rebuilding the shack and was happy to achieve fully operational status again in October 2025.

Today, the shack is focused on maximizing the great DX opportunities here. You’ll currently find me operating predominantly on the HF bands using modern digital modes like FT8 and FT4. I am also actively planning frequent POTA (Parks on the Air) and SOTA (Summits on the Air) activations across the many sites Orkney has to offer!

Beyond the Shack

When I’m not in the shack, I enjoy spending time with my young family and walking our dog Loko. I am also a keen Master Model Railroader and currently serve as the President of the National Model Railroad Association (you can find more info at www.nmra.org).

I also maintain a dedicated model railroad blog, which you can visit here: gordy.uk

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to catch you again on the air soon! 73.
